## Configuring Shipping Methods Based on Quantity

Configuring a shipping method according to the quantity allows you to calculate the shipping price according to the total quantity of all items in an order. The shipping price will be determined according to one of two factors:

- A price per quantity
- A fixed price based upon a quantity range that you supply.

The system will first look to see if the total quantity of all items falls within a range you have provided. If so, the shipping price for that range will be used. This will allow you to create rules such as "for orders that contain a total quantity of 1 - 10, charge $5 shipping".

If the total quantity of all items in the order does not fall within a range you have supplied, the shipping price will be calculated using the Price per Quantity you provide. For example, if you supply $5 and the total quantity of all items in the order is 5, the shipping price would be $25.

Note that the total quantity is determined by adding together all of the quantities for each item in the order. It is _**not**_ a count of the number of line items in the order. For example, an order that contains quantity 1 of Product A and quantity 2 of Product B would have a total quantity of 3.

If you don't supply any quantity ranges, the shipping price will always be determined as using the Price per Quantity you provide.

### Examples

- **Price per Quantity**: $5
- **Ranges**: 1 - 5: $15, 5 - 10: $25
- **Total Quantity**: 3
- **Calculated Shipping price**: $15

Because the total quantity falls within the "1 - 5" range you provided, the shipping price will be the price supplied for that range: $15.

- **Price per Quantity**: $5
- **Ranges**: 1 - 5: $15, 5 - 10: $25
- **Total Quantity**: 11
- **Calculated Shipping price**: $55

Because the total quantity does not fall within a range you provided, the shipping price will be calculated according to the Price per Quantity you provided: $5 x 11 = $55.

You can supply as many ranges as you need.

#### Currency Support

You can supply ranges in more than one currency, if desired. This will allow you to precisely configure the shipping amount charged based on your customer's payment currency. If the customer's payment currency is different than the Price per Quantity or any of the ranges you supply, the system will convert your Price per Quantity and quantity ranges to the customer's payment currency using real-time rates to determine the appropriate shipping price to use. This will ensure that the correct amount is charged in all cases.
